The International Federation of Journalists to hold its World Congress next week in Ireland

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) will hold World Congress 2013 at Dublin Castle in Dublin, Ireland from June 4th to June 7th.  Among the featured speakers will be Michael D. Higgins, President of Ireland.IFJ is the largest organization of journalists in the world with more than half a million members in over 100 countries. 

It supports trade unions representing journalists as a way of defending freedom of the press and social justice.  It is against using the media to spread propaganda, intolerance, or conflict.  The organization represents journalists at the United Nations.  It provides support for journalists who are in need through its International Safety Fund.

The World Congress is held every three years and decides the policy of the organization.  A Secretariat based in Brussels carries out IFJ’s policy. For more information, visit IFJ’s website at www.ifj.org.
